If I leave ntl and come back again later can I keep my old email address?

I'm moving house and considering dumping ntl when I do and I'll then either
1) Go elsewhere.
or
2) Come back on one of those cheap deals ntl always offer to new customers.

If I do come back I'd ideally like to keep my old email address, does any-one know if that's possible?

Thanks,
Robin

:welcome: to cable forum.

You would not be a new customer though, unless you get your wife/partner to sign up in there name.

If youre ending the contract having fulfilled the 12 month obligation I would say you may well be treated as a new customer, only one way to find out;) unless someone can give a definite answer?

I left NTL for a while - when I returned I was unable to recreate the same email that I had before.

That seems logical in a way because your email is linked to the account and in reality the account that had the email addy that you wanted to recreate is deemed as dead.

once you leave the email i believe is frozen for a designated time and then becomes available to whoever!!

COnvert the account to a dial up / pay as you go one. Rejoin as whatever new name, then setup to connect to your dial up account email. You then retain that, but can phase it out, whilst appearing to be a new customer.

And before anyone says you have to dial in once every few months to keep the dial up account going, I have never done so, yet the email can be used all the time for the many years I've had broadband.

You can't change a broadband email address to a dialup account and yes, ntl do periodically audit dialup accounts that aren't being used and disconnect them.......

Hmm, I bow to superior knowledge on the conversion thing :nworthy: :)

Can't explain why an audit hasn't killed my dial up that hasn't been dialed into for years, just email checked regularly by Outlook Express download.

maybe becuase their system has noticed the email address is still active as you keep connecting to it to get your emails from another ntl connection... :p:

Although i wander if its clever enough to do that :erm:

Thanks for all the advice!

It seems like I'll be losing my email address.

Does anybody know how long the address is frozen for before being released again?

I'm in a similar position. My 2M cable connection is going to be out of action for a while until I move house (possibly 6 months). Currently, I'm paying ntl £30 for nothing. I guess the only option is to downgrade to the lowest broadband package and pay that to keep the email.

Another question. If I transfer my connection to another property that already has NTL, can I keep my email address, but not have the 12 months contract reset ?

I'm still using my Dail-up account and it's not been audited. But then I'm constantly accessing it EVERY day through my BB account. ;)
