terabyte cube
I read about a year ago of a new storage device which hold over 1 Terabyte of date on a media the size of a sugar cube.
Its made from some new polymer/plastic that uses two lasers to to read/write data, each bit of data is 400 nanometres long and 100 nanometres apart. If the lasers are on one point for more than 1 femto second it will crack the cube. I can't find anything on it yet I'll give brain dump a search. |

Afterall its been at least 4 years since I first heard of it, thats more than enough time to make it to the retail market, and there certainly is a market for storage that size. Though thinking about it, hasnt this allready been superceded by quantumn storage even if it does come out? If I remember right quantumn can hold about 200TB in a small rectangular strip (about the size of a current RAM Dimm.) |
