5v fan
 

does anyone know where i can get a 5v dc fan with a current rating of about 0.2A

most places that do have them seem to want around £10 for one :Yikes:


The reason i want one is cus i accidently broke a fan blade off one of the fans in my lapcool2 and was hopeing i can just get a fan fairly cheaply rather than replace the whole thing.


the fans that are in there are 70mm x70mm x 10mm

although i could probably fit a slightly larger/smaller fan if i cant get hold of a 70mm one, its the thickness / voltage /current rating thats the most important.

the lapcool is powerd of a usb port and uses 2fans, hence the voltage/current requirement.

This is prolly the nearest, but 12v.... but again, you're looking around a tenner....

Yeah the notebook cooler was about £20ish i think, didnt get it that long ago.

suppose i could just dc the broken fan and leave the other one running...

it so happens that the one on the side that sits nearer to the cpu is the working fan...

those fans seem rather expensive for what is basicly a motor with some plastic stuck ontop.

did look at 12v fans but i doubt there would be enough power to start one spinning unless it was one of those fans that was capabile of low/medium and high speed settings then it might work on 5v all be it slowly.

The major worry with even trying this is that i might damage the usb port if the fans where trying to draw to much power.

Computer fans have to move the maximum amount of air possible for effective cooling, while making as little noise as possible - or your PC/laptop would drive you crazy. It's also desirable that they should continue to do this consistently for a reasonable length of time. That's why they seem to be relatively expensive: in fact, it's often the more expensive ones (assuming you make good choices) that will last several times as long as cheaper fans with much greater reliability, and are more worth buying in the long run.

RS is another good place to buy non-standard fans.

actaully my desktop pc is rather noisy compared with the likes of the dell's etc

might be something to do with the fact its got 8 fans in it (2 case fans, 2 in psu 3 on mobo and 1 on gfx card), Tend not to notice the fan noise after a while so its not a major concern with me.

Only use cooling pad on laptop when playing games but i might just take the cheap way out and disconnect the broken fan, as its only blowing air on the cool side of hte laptop anyway, the laptop gets a lot hotter on the right hand side (probably where the cpu and gpu are)
