Bog Standards?

Have your say in the poll-see link.

If as some claim, a nation can truly be judged by its public toilets, then where does that leave the UK?

Critics say they are neglected, dirty, unsafe and dwindling in numbers, which makes them a subject as whinge-worthy as the weather. For them, this is where community life and a civilised society meets anti-social behaviour and embarrassment.

But the tide could be turning. The World Toilet Summit in Belfast this week hopes to press governments from around the globe into action, and British campaigners hope the momentum will continue when they meet ministers in October.
sounds errrrr...interesting. :)

That's one word for it!

Sadly, the idea of having nice, flowery toilets is a bit of a non-starter. Most of the public loos I have been in stink of urine, and it would appear that many males are completely incapable of any semblance of aim. Moving on, many appear unable to flush a lavatory. Those that dousually find they've blocked the pipe with enough paper to write a small manuscript.

Nasty places, public loos...

There was a prog on ages ago about some cleaners who cleaned public loo's and i remember after sprucing the toilets up the day after they'd find needles, condoms all over!! Definately one place to avoid!!

Not only do they have bad aim but they are also so weak that they are incapable of lifting the seat before they practise this bad aim.

In public loos I try to use my foot to lift the seat, flush & open the doors now, otherwise it's too unhealthy for my liking.

Most of them round here are either chavved to desolation or places where you could catch something that would kill you, totally gross.

Ones in shops are fine though.

I usually do the foot thing for the seat, and a coat covered hand to touch everything. I learnt the latter technique after putting my hand in some **** on a door lock. This was the toilets at the Leeds Dental School - popular with the homeless since it's only around the corner from a shelter. Trouble with the foot technique is that you risk over balancing - never know where you're going to put your hand :disturbd:

Newark and Sherwood Council have some cracking toilets, the ones I went to a few weeks a go were spot on, they were clean, warm and had an attendent working in them. Well done Newark and Sherwood Council.

Yep, if I get caught short then I head to McDonald's and go for a McSh*t. If one of their employees says the toilets are for their customers only then I have a McSh*t with Lies.

On a more serious note, I have found that motorway service station toilets have improved dramatically over the past few years. I have been to both Reading and Cardiff and Magor services recently (on different journeys I hasten to add) and the toilets were spotless and didn't smell icky.

Motorway toilets in France, on the other hand...

I wouldn't, mate - I do honestly like McDonalds toilets.... erm, that's not what I meant :erm: In terms of public toilets, I think McD's are very very good.
