Cannot connect to hotmail
 

Can anyone please shed some light as to why I get the following error using outlook to connect to my hotmail email account:

An unknown error has occurred. Account: 'my account', Server: 'http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp', Protocol: HTTPMail, Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 12019, Error Number: 0x80004005

Unable to poll for new messages on your HTTP server. Account: 'my account', Server: 'http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp', Protocol: HTTPMail, Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 12019, Error Number: 0x80004005

Strangely enough I cannot check my email using a browser either.

I am not that technically minded, so any help would be appreciated.

If this has just happened, it might be a server issue at hotmail's end. try it again in a few hours time.

If you have had the problem for a while, especially if you've only just setup OE to use the hotmail account, check the settings you have entered - password, account name, server names, etc. It's surprising how easy it is to do something dumb like entering one character wrong.

OK this all appears to be related to other threads on the board, and thus appears to be an issue at hotmail's end.
