PCi Card / Network Card Conflict

Hi,
I have a new Dell 8400 with a Broadcom Network Card for Hi Speed Broadband access but I want to connect wirelessly. I purchased a Belkin Wirless Router (g) and PCi Wirless Card (g). I tested the router by linking it directly to the computer (using the network card) and it works fine.

I installed the Bekin Software and then the PCi card in a spare slot.

I then disabled the network card.

1. The computer does not recognise the PCI Wireless card. The LED light for it is on but it does not appear on the device maanger.
2. If I try and open the Bekin software, it opens for one second and then closes.

What do I do? Something with BIOS?

Did the pc find new hardware after installing the pci card? If not in control panel select add new hardware and see if it finds it :) If its not in device manager under network adapters then its not installed

No new hardware was found in bothe case. The LED for the PCI card is lighting. The funny thing is the Belkin software - it closes automatically a second after opening it! Is there a way to check under BIOS if a the PCI slot has been enabled?

I would not imagine its disabled(but to be sure when the pc boots press either F2key or delete key until bios opens then have a look around),are any other slots populated?
Try a different slot

Try a different slot

I have one other free slot. The other slot has the Broadcom Network Card. If it doesnt work, I will probably swap it for a USB Wirless device. aggg

Subaculture if the card isnt recognised in the system at all, have you checked in Device Manager???

if you see something at Other Devices with the name NETWORK ADAPTER right click on it and select update driver, then you just have a look yourself dont do the auto install and again on the following page select DON'T search I'll choose the driver to install.

normally it should and would come up as Belkin 54G PCI ADAPTER.

otherwise call tech support on 00 800 223 55 460 and get a reference number to have it replaced. or you could go to BELKIN RMA and have it replaced via this way.

if you have questions or problems you can send me a PM and I'll have another looksie for you
