cd drawer stuck!
Hello, the drawer for my cd drive wont open! I am still using windows 98 and I only wanted to play an audio cd through cd player.Has it finally given up the ghost or can anyone make a suggestion? Cheers! (ps maybe it knew I was going to stick a Slayer cd in there?)

Re: cd drawer stuck!
Sometimes theres a tiny hole on the front that you can push a strieghtened paper clip in for emergency release :)

Re: cd drawer stuck!
Try turning off the computer whilst holding the open drawer button in.
IIRC that did it for me when i had a similar prob. |

Start>my computer> select the drive>right click>eject.

Or last resort.
Nip BnQ and buy a hammer |
Re: cd drawer stuck!
The hole should only be used with the power off.
As you push a half-straightened paperclip in, the tray should unlatch and partially eject, and may then be drawn the rest of the way by hand. The other suggestions are good too, trying the eject button while in the bios is another possibility, if a bad disk is causing a software lock-up. The price of a current drive, means it's not worth trying too hard to fix an old drive - they DO go down eventually, since thay can suffer mechanical, optical and electronic problems in a single unit ... in fact, it's amazing they work at all! |

Make sure the power lead is connected , it may have come loose.

Re: cd drawer stuck!
If all else fails, and there is a disk in there you really need back, remove the drive from the PC, undo the 4 screws on the base of the drive and gently work the top cover off and then retrieve you CD. Sometime the plastic mechanism for the emergancy release jams or snaps from to much jabbing so this it the only way.
