Pah! Easy.

Took a few pictures of the garden recently, and if you look carefully, you can see that once upon a time it was not a garden, but open landscape that had wild animals on it.

Admittedly, the resolution of my digital camera is probably better than Mars Explorer's - pro rata the distances involved.

I am always amazed by Mars and wish we could get there to examine that world.

There is sooo much we have found and to be found, I do believe a culture once lived there, that is my personal belief.

If that's the case, you'll like Mars and Return to Mars by Ben Bova. A good read. I've finished the first and am halfway through the second.
