Just a shame it's built by Motorola.

I've never really had a problem with motorola...admittedly, their software could do with being abit more 'user-friendly'

Actually my own view of Motorola is probably coloured by my experience of them. I had a timeport, which was crap, and every one of my friends who has had a motorola has had it fail on them, and one is currently on his fifth RAZR (the first three died within a month of him getting the first one). In fact, the only person I know off line who is happy with her Motorola found it in the street, bung her SIM in, found it worked and therefore got a new pre-pay phone for the cost of a charger.

Anyway, this is :notopic:

Indeed, now the mobile PHONE has a camera, games console AND music system built-in.

I can see how the addition of the music system is going to improve connectivity, call quality and my ability to talk on the phone while driving.

Instead of the integration of different devices reducing the number of devices I 'need', it is actually increasing it, since without a PC my mobile phone seems to be rather useless, as I can't transfer the pictures I've taken, or load the tunes I want to hear.

Meanwhile, the quality of the phone technology is hardly improving at all, but in place of any improvement I get a rather limited camera, dodgy music system and poor games console thrown in. I find myself STILL wanting to own a proper camera and music system. (I don't bother with the games console - greatest waste of time/space ever created.)

So do I want this 'wonderful' new phone?

No.

I'm perfectly happy with my 3310 as a phone - it even does txt messages - wow! It's solid as a brick (ok - and weighs like one, but at least I notice if I am not carrying/have lost it!)

My JVC music system is pretty good - no way top of the range, but then the extra £2000 would be wasted on me - I don't think I could really hear the difference - I'd only pretend I could to justify the price tag. (Show me a Hi-Fi buff and I'll show you a prize liar :))

As for a camera - I'm still in the dark ages there - lovely 35mm SLR that does the trick for me. I'll admit that I'd quite like a digital camera - but it would have to be an SLR that accepts my current batch of lenses etc. I see digital as an additional medium, not one that replaces film. (BTW - anyone wishing to disagree - I'll quite happily challenge you to a contest - biggest/best enlargement - I'll be using something like ISO 64 slide film - I'm looking forward to seeing what digital camera can match that!)

I'm sure I've said it before - I'm sure I'll say it again. No way will a phone ever match up to devices properly designed for the job. And in any case, until they can get a mobile phone to work properly everywhere, they'd do better to concentrate on that, instead of adding ever more gizmos to them to hide the fact that they're not very good!

I 'upgraded' a Phillips C12 (big lump of ugly plastic) for a Motorola phone (can't remember the model.) Looked fancy and wonderful - then found that even with the keypad 'locked' it would switch off if the power switch was operated. Makes for a really useful feature when carried in a bag/pocket.

First I thought it was a 'fault', but eventually realised it was a 'feature' instead. Managed to get a 3310 instead, and have been happy with it so far.

In fact, I've still to find a phone that's a better phone - particularly if you don't want it to switch off in your pocket or fly into a million pieces if dropped.
