Wireless encryption help
 
Having just recieved my new notebook which i am really pleased with (dell xps gen2) i have set up a wireless network but can't enable any encryption, every time i do my modem won't release an ip address does anyonee know why?, i am quite sure i'm setting it up wrong as i have never done wireless before, help would be appreciated :)

yeah cuz your probably setting it all up wirelessly., if you wanna do the easy 1 then use WPA-PSK with TKIP as technique.

thats easy and hard to crack

still won't release ip, what am i doing wrong?

If you have got a network cable set it up wirelessly that way.

I did\with no problems, use the IP address for the router/ wireless access point

Just altered ours from WEP to WPA-PSK. As easy as entering a pass phrase on the router then reconnecting to the WLAN.

I do use a RJ45 when I'm configuring the router though.

once it been set up via the cable you can use wireless to access the router
