Three teens virtually get away with rape

This makes me sick two 14 year olds and a 15 year old walked out of court with 11 convictions for rape after the judge says he does not want to "criminalise" them. I really hope something is done about this and this judge never sit for a rape trial again

I agree - age should be irrelevant. If you're old enough to commit a crime you're old enough to be punished for it. 'Criminalising' them - what tosh! They did that themselves!

You can do something if you feel strongly about this, write to the attorney generals office about it under the unduly lenient sentence scheme, it has to be done 28 days from sentencing iirc

Mind boggling the excuses some have come up with.
Not as if it as a drunken spur of the one-off moment thing.

"But this judge has come to the conclusion that help is required rather than punishment.
"It's a brave step to take... you can see why he's done it because the law says that children's welfare takes precedence over most other things."
...
Joseph said in her experience of sentencing, it was "not successful" sending a 15 or 16-year-old into a young offenders institution, where they then go on to prisons.
She said it would expose them to "such bad influences".
Quote:

Explaining his sentencing decision on Thursday, Judge Nicholas Rowland said he would avoid "criminalising" the "very young" boys.

exactly it is 10 counts of rape it did say 11 earlier . What message does letting them walk give them and other youths I refuse to call them children in the sense it makes light of the attacks

A young lass from my town committed suicide recently after the person who raped her was released early. You can bet there are people serving time for financial crime spend longer inside. Absolutely hate this society we live in now the land is beautiful but the culture getting worse every year

---------- Post added at 10:46 ---------- Previous post was at 10:42 ----------

The reason crime in this country is getting nastier is because we have no deterrent at all . You can not discipline your kids now all has to be words and the naughty step no real consequences small wonder we see animals in hoods roaming the streets.

As you can see I feel very strongly about this

Its already being reviewed by them.

The Judge is a complete moron.
The boys even filmed some of it and shared that video online.

Pleased that it's being reviewed. And as for the judge not wanting to criminalise them; a bit late for that, they've been found guilty of a terrible crime, so they are criminals.

Will MPs take control of this , simply pass a law with minimum sentences. Ie one rape 10 years + 2 rapes 30 years + . Of cause that would be so simple.

The problem with that is that you will, absolutely will, run up against an exception, where someone is mandatorily sentenced to a minimum term, whereas the particular circumstances of the case might lend itself to a lighter sentence.

The current system is where Parliament sets maximum sentences and authorises ‘guidelines’ which Judges are expected to follow. It seems to me that in this case, it wasn’t followed, but there are mechanisms to correct this obvious failure of the judicial system to reflect public opinion.

I have little doubt that the sentence will, absolutely, be reviewed and the perpetrators given a more appropriate punishment.

But I think that one bad choice doesn't mean the entire system is bad, yes give Judges guidelines but with a degree of latitude depending on the particular facts of the case. But do have mechanism to correct obvious failings, which we do.

Guilty of rape should always = custody there should never be an exception to that

Overcoming someone. + Forcefully penetrating someone. = You can walk free.

Trump justice.

Which doesn’t necessarily mean that their sentences will be changed, but considering the public outrage over it and the political fallout, I suspect there will be quite a bit of backstage ‘leaning’ on the Judges in the Court of Appeal!
