5G Broadcast TV progress

Still watching with interest the progress of the 5G Broadcast technology. The natural replacement for the current Digital Terrestrial Television standards, and the most resilient and efficient way for live programming.

First time I’ve heard that United States are interested in it, but I can understand why.

The TV companies in the US are a very powerful lobby. They effectively killed off any prospect of DAB radio being launched as they would not give up VHF band III they still use for TV broadcasting. They might however give up some UHF spectrum if they think they can still have output on it.

Re: 5G Broadcast TV progress

Those articles are about “5G” not “5G Broadcast” which is a separate standard.

The BBC and other UK PSB’s recent actions (or rather inactions) suggest there are currently no plans for 5G Broadcast in UK unfortunately.
