I be wanting to smack these coaches in their faces when I see them yell & scream at athletes especially Bobby Knight. I would punch him in his jaw if he yelled at me!!

What right does the idiotic coach have to yell at someone cause they dont do a good enough job!!

They are doing the BEST they can!!

This is a post by someone who has never trained to any kind of competitive level that is for sure.

The shout focuses you on the instruction.

Many many years ago I was competing in a semi contact tourney in Southampton. Long story short I got cheated and was miffed. Walked into the cafe area and met this guy who was local to that area and was an coach. He said he had a guy wanted a full contact match that night my weight so I said I will take him on. We got it sanctioned and it was first fight of the night.

My corner men were telling me to take it easy he is a good kicker and the fight started. Then I heard a familiar shout from my instructor and Kung Fu / Kickboxing mentor " Just Batter Him" that gave me the push I needed and the guy went down twice in the first had good fun in the second spinning kicks and settled in he refused to come out for the 3rd

Point is without that aggressive environment you would never push yourself anywhere near your potential. An Athlete can always do better (until they get to old of course then you get stronger but slower for a good few years though) and always want the next PB they are doing their best does not cut the mustard

Coaches shout. Mainly to make you listen and focus your attention.

Our teams coaches shout to us during training and during games. You wouldn't hear them other wise. Most often it's to tell you to work harder or during a game to get you to move to where they want you or if players on the other team are near and focus you on dealing with the challenge at hand.

In some sports like ice skating and gymnast the coaches in the past would be overly aggressive and just nasty to the girls. That is uncalled for but in team sports it is very helpful.

I tell ya the stomping anger by the 49ers coach versus the Seahawks sure looked ugly!!
