Re: On 1gig But!
If you are not already doing so, the Virgin Connect app will run tests both from the hub and your device. The former will give a pretty accurate picture at a service level, the latter how well your wifi is doing. The app can record figures for different rooms in the house and can be used to identify wifi shortcomings.
Other tools can also run tests from your hub/router. |
Re: On 1gig But!
If you are using a 1Gb port on either the hub or the computer doing the speedtest - than 940Mb is about as fast as you'll get.
But use the 2.5Gb port on the hub and a computer which 2.5GB or higher network card - then you should get around 1.15Gb download with the 1GB service. Quote:

Re: On 1gig But!
Thank You All. Appreciated. I not got a clue if my Hub 4 is a 2.5Gb (2.5Gb port on the hub and a computer which 2.5GB or higher network card) Don't have a network card in my new pc..I'll be happy at 946.90 anyway. My Ethernet cable is CAT 7 into a tp-link 8 port Gigabit switch. not sure if that is 1gig or 2.5. All 8 ports used.

Almost certainly your 8-port switch is also equipped with 1 Gbit ports. Your reported speed is correct, you ore on VM’s 1 Gig tier which is 1 Gb/s down and roughly 1/10 of that up. In general VM slightly over provision the speed, which explains why the upload speed is slightly more than you might think. |
Re: On 1gig But!
Sorry for my Long Absence in answering you, I'm not very well this way so it takes a while for me to answer etc.
Just been in a 1 hour phone call to India which has done my head in. I might start a new chat on that one after I have taken my pills to calm down. So this Hub 5 only has one 2.5gb port whilst my switch has 1000mb ports. My Ethernet cable is plugged into the First port at top for connection, My UGREEN NAS is plugged directly into the Hub 5 - 2.5gb port, so is that correct that My NAS will get the 2.5gb speed? NAS is All new to me and because of my illness I finding it hard to follow. How do I check the speed of my NAS?/ THANKS. |

There are so many variables with the NAS also what array you are using and disk types |
Re: On 1gig But!
The speed to/from the NAS will always be limited by the other 1Gb connections to the hub. The only way your NAS could benefit is if a total of over 1Gb of data traffic, using more than one 1Gb connection simultaneously. How likely is that?
Transfer to/from your PC could only benefit, if your PC had 2.5Gb(or higher) connection and it was linked to the NAS by a 2.5Gb switch or router. |
