Cut through the cable

Hi guys I was cutting my hedge today and not seen that when VM installed my cable about 13 years ago they had just shoved it under my hedge leading to the walls where it's connected.

Today I was cutting away and the hedge was overgrown must have pushed the cable further out and I cut it in 2 about 6 feet away from the wall.

They are coming on the 7th to fix it. Will they need to put new cable in from the junction box to to the house or will they just repair it from where it's been cut in 2?

I have a wall unit blocking the box from the inside so would need to remove it if they need to get to the socket.

They should a new cable from the cab to your house

Can’t see it. Cheaper to repair and put a gel seal on. Back when I worked on service/installs for VM techs were targeted in the amount of repulls booked.

Maybe I’m getting rusty on the detail, but isn’t there a junction at the drop point outside your house? As in cable goes from cabinet to drop point. Then, if you take the VM serv ice, they run a cable from the drop point to the house wall box. The drop cable should be encased in green ducting unless the cable is outdoor rated and armoured.

My 28yr old house hasn't got one and it was a new build, but this was before virginmedia existed in my area and only had access to Cambridge Cable for TV analogue services.

It's just a black cable running to the house. I have the green box over the road from me so I guess easy access to the house if needed. he repaired it from outside and stuck a plastic tube like container around it so all good now

That's fine. He did a barrel-joint to bridge the two ends and then put waterproof protection round it. Also being so close to the cabinet, the 3dB loss due to the barrel-joint is of no consequence.

Won’t be 3dB loss through a barrel joint, 2 way splitters are only 3.5 loss, 0.5dB if I can remember correctly, haven’t touched one for years though
