Not quite panning out how you hoped it would 'play out'...

Police confirmed that they had arrested a 53-year-old British man.

The force said: “We would ask people not to speculate on the circumstances surrounding tonight’s incident on Water Street in Liverpool city centre.

“We can confirm the man arrested is a 53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area.

“Extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances leading up to the collision.”

I’m not “hoping” for anything.

But let’s not forget Axel Rudakubana was a young welsh lad from Cardiff.

Which was my point, I’ll wait a bit longer.

What an introduction to a tragedy. You really are a weapon of the highest order.

Police are apparenly not treating it as terrorism [atm].

sounds gruesome from eye witness statements, the authorities were quick to tell us it was a white guy, are they afraid of more civil unrest like at Southport?

For sure. BBC talking head last night suggested that the authorities had ‘perhaps learned something’ in being quick to give those details. However, if they were hoping to avoid a race riot, then the only way of dong that would have been if they had been able to say the man they arrested was white British. If he had been any other ethnicity, would they have released that information? In Southport, if the police had confirmed what people thought they knew about Radukubana’s ethnicity, would that have stopped racist assaults on mosques etc, or would it have emboldened those engaged in it to do more?

it's difficult to contain a crowd fuelled on booze if it all kicks off, thankfully it didn't , question now is how did the car get past the blockade

I think they released it because, as you say, they knew it would calm things down. There were already the usual social media rumours about the driver's ethnicity, so they wanted to stop it quickly.

But they've made a rod for their own backs now because if they don't release the details next time, people will make inferences about what that means.

If there are many witnesses to an attack, then elements of the identity of the alleged attacker are going to surface.

Yes, but people also lie on social media.

The road in question wasn’t blocked

that would explain why people are saying the driver was sounding the horn as he drove through the crowd, they were possibly impeding his progress
