I've seen that happen in Scotland but that's because it gets light very early.

I get the usual dawn chorus, but it is always preceded by the gulls on Tesco's flat roof squawking when something disturbs them. Someone told me that there is a system up there that emits a distress call, to stop them nesting. Maybe that is going off before dawn?

I live at the seaside the gulls often fly at night, light pollution in towns means they can see potential food sources on the ground and the buggers aint quiet
