Canadian Liberals win 4th Term

I was going to put this in the Trump thread since he should be credited with this victory, but this is one of the biggest turnarounds we've seen in a Western Parliamentary System.

The Canadian Liberal Party have won the election. A few months ago, they were over 20 points behind, and the Conservatives were certain to win the election. Their leader, Poilievre, was seen as the future of conservatism in the West and was being interviewed by everyone trying to find out the reasons for his success. At the time of writing, he might be about to lose his seat.

This is almost entirely because of Trump and the perception Poilievre was too close to him and that the Liberals will stick up to him instead. Poilievre was keeping close to the Trump media universe, people like Jordan Peterson, and it seems that association just killed his chances. It's incredible he might lose his seat from where he was just three months ago.

Link to Poilievre’s constituency election results- at this time, 264 out of 266 polls have been reported.

Quote:

With 264 of 266 polls reporting, Bruce Fanjoy, of the Liberal Party, leads by 3,793 votes with 42,374 (50.59%) of 83,756 votes in Carleton. The results are current as of 4:47 a.m.

Incumbent Pierre Poilievre, of the Conservative Party, is in second place with 38,581 votes (46.06%) and Beth Prokaska, of the New Democratic Party, is in third with 1,190 votes (1.42%).
If he’s not careful, he’ll be doing a Truss…

Absolutely. It’s amazing that Trump didn’t realise the impact his rhetoric on Canada becoming the 51st State of America would have on the Canadians at a time when the candidate most likely to win would have supported him.

The signs are that he may have gravely misjudged the impact of his tariffs, too.

In the meantime, Canada’s people have another four years of liberalism to look forward to. Who’d of thought it?!
