Changes to iPlayer access on the V6.

Yesterday, on the Discovery Bar, there was a tile that said that changes were coming for accessing the iPlayer.

Before I could access it, it had changed and I haven't seen it since.

Anyone know what this is about?

It's just reappeared. You can no longer access BBC Catch Up via the EPG or Catch Up area.

You now have to use the iplayer and search for what you want.

It'll be one of those things that VM describe as an 'upgrade'.

It looks like this may affect the Horizon-based platforms too. I see the catchup symbol is missing from some of yesterday's programmes on BBC One, mainly news/live programmes but also 8-10pm. This appears to be continuing in the days ahead too with, for example. most of Saturday's schedule missing the catchup symbol too.

Exactly, all it's done is make things more difficult & inconvenient.

It still works as expected on Freeview Play. I guess this is the sort of change we pay for...

How annoying! Another downgrade.

The catch-up direct links were originally targeted at content on VMs own OD servers. With the vast majority of this content now hosted externally & requiring the user to sign in to an app the direct links no longer exist.

Indeed the last few times I have tried to use a link to a BBC programme from the EPG I just landed on the iPlayer homepage & still had to search for the programme I wanted to watch.

Yes, it’s pretty annoying that those running the streamers don’t seem to want their streamer to be easily accessed from other platforms. Maybe we should have some legislation that makes co-operation over these matters mandatory.

I've not had that! Whilst you now have to use the "Search & Explore" menus instead of direct EPG access, the shortcuts still work for me.

BBC content has to be <30days old, C5 <90 I think. ITV & C4 not sure. I find that Netflix will dump you to the app front-screen the first time you access it on a day. but will subsequently still go direct to the programme you've chosen.

The vast majority of my viewing is from recordings with Netflix box-sets in second place, so I tend to try to test these shortcuts every month or so.
