My current contract with EE for my phone comes to an end in Feb.

Will EE then auto switch me onto a sim only contract or do I have to call into an EE shop and negotiate a deal?

No they won't switch, your contract will just keep running, it's upto you to transfer your number to another provider and at that point the contract with EE will automatically end and they will stop taking payment. If you want to stay with EE but move to a pay monthly then you have to contact them, just like any other provider.

Personally if you want to save money I'd move to 1pmobile it will be cheaper and runs on the EE network so you would do that after your contract ends by requesting a PAC code and giving it to 1pmobile.

Does your device plans have a separate direct debit to the airtime plan? My O2 contracts do and once my device ends I just continue to pay for the airtime plan at its standard charge.

I'm sure most networks do this now as they used to get in to trouble when contracts ended and if you didn't contact you'd be paying the £56 per month until you called them. Where as now my device is £38 a month and airtime is £15, so when device paid off I'm only left with the £15 until I decide to upgrade to a new device.

We used to get calls about it all the time when I was in customer relations at Vodafone. Suddenly calling 14 months after contract ended and wondering why still paying the full price. It was their responsibility to keep track of their service and contract terms.

Plan will just continue at the rate you are paying, rising slightly each March as with all networks.
Now would be the time to find a new deal and ask to switch.
I stayed with EE, just found a cheaper deal and they did it instantly.

The plans are just so expensive with them now, but what do you expect when they have to pay for celebs to do gimmicky adverts.

Asda mobile, £5 a month all in, or payg. No contract either. Suits me.

Wow I am surprised. I've been paying my device seperate to my airtime for years now. On O2 and Vodafone. So they don't reduce to just the airtime once the device is paid off?

Didn't think they were allowed to do that still.
