Ending contract early

Hi folks, offspring has moved into his first flat with some friends and they’re looking at getting VM but a bit scared of the 18 month contract tie-in. Can anyone advise what the penalty is for ending a contract early should that be necessary? IIRC they charge a reduced monthly rate? It’s been so long since I’ve been a VM customer myself I’ve forgotten all this stuff now. :D

Thanks :tu: … that worksheet looks like it needs a degree in maths to work with :D

Though it’s useful that they’re completely transparent in the way they work it out.

If any of them are students there are 12 month and 30 day rolling contract deals.

Looks like they are timed with the student year not available till 2025 now.

Basically, its expensive, they charge the remaining months at around 95% I believe.

If moving to somewhere where there are no VM services, you can reclaim the cancellation charges (allegedly).

Thanks everyone :tu:

Yes, I saw the rolling options, but they are a lot more expensive per month and the speeds available are lower. I don’t know what they’ll go for but as this is their first flat-share I can understand why an 18 month commitment is giving them pause for thought.

It's a shame 5G routers cost a lot otherwise data sims aren't as expensive

Are there other non-VM options that they could consider? The other thing is that some ISP's will buy out your contract (up to a max amount) that could help when the account holder needs to move to another property. Not much consolation but it all goes in the mix.

There’s no FTTP in their street and they are all pretty data intensive in their work and play. They could go for an Openreach product but I suspect they’ll end up noticing the compromise.
