Diesel oil system cleaner

Took the Mondeo Titanium X TDCI in for its annual service today at Halfords and it all came back pretty much in tip top condition although it did come back under Recommendations with “Recommend oil system cleaner with an oil change” which they’d charge £30 for.

Seeing as part of the full service was an oil and filter change I’m not too inclined to spend that amount when part of the process has already been carried out.

So is there any recommended system cleaner I can add to the oil tank? I use Wynne’s DPF cleaner once or twice a month so I was wondering if there’s anything along those lines I could use specifically for cleaning the oil system?

Redex Diesel?

Yeah Redex isn’t too bad really (if I can’t get any Wynns then I use their DPF cleaner) but Redex Diesel is for the engine system in general rather than the oil system itself which is what was noted on the service report.

Could they be referring to an engine flush perhaps? My garage always suggests a flush prior to an oil change as it’s supposed to clear out any sludgy deposits.

Q. Why can I not have the Fuel Efficiency Pack on its own without a service?

For this procedure to be fully effective, we have to apply it before draining the old engine oil and then refilling the engine with clean oil. By not draining the old engine oil after the procedure, any contaminates already present will remain in the engine and the benefits will be greatly reduced and it could potentially cause harm to the engine . It also makes economic sense to add clean oil to a clean engine!

I used to use an extra-slippery additive to old oil about 50 miles before an oil change. I've not seen it on sale for a couple of decades though. It coated all moving parts and cleared sludge.
