So if VM are getting everyone to plug their landlines into the hub how does that work if it’s in modem mode. Will it still work?

Been advised of switch in Oct , note on letter.can cancel without charge if I don't want it.

What are the benefits for going digital and do you still have to pay line rental if choose to go digital?

No benefits, just cons, if your BB/hub is down so will the phone be. Having a separate independent phone connection is better.

You can try but think they are steamrolling it through whatever. However if you have an SH2 they can't do it , so holding onto mine ;)

If you cancel but where are you going to? Openreach are in the process of swtcihing everyone to digital phone connections. It will all end in 2025.

You cannot cling onto something that willl no longer exist no matter what hub you have.

Worthy of note. BT and some other suppliers force you to use there own routers to take advantage of their digital phone offerings, best to port your number to a third party one if you need to keep your number and use your own equioment.

Mr_K can keep his SH2 but won't keep his phone line.

Peanut can decline but will end up not having a phone service. Good result!

Seems like we won't have a choice then. Saying that, I only use the landline to call 150 once every 18 months. I'm old and I don't like change.

Yes, but only because I work from home and need a public landline number for ‘business’ purposes. And also because my mother in law is still averse to calling mobile numbers if she can possibly help it. We have a digital landline from BT on our FTTH for something like an extra £5 a month, which work pays for.

An emergency and your mobile is out of battery, no signal or credit or you cant find the thing ?
Always wise to have a landline, if only as a back up.

Digital landlines don’t work that way, because they require the router to be powered. There’s no current flowing in a fibre-optic line. If you’re a vulnerable person you can apply to have a battery backup installed on the router. If you’re not you can buy one. I imagine very few people do.

That's why this a dowgrade of the phone service. It may save costs for VM, but its not in the customer's interest. 'Digital' doesn't always mean better or more robust.
