Noisy Case Fan Issue
I have a 120mm case fan that's noisy upon cold boots when the system has been off for a few hours.
Is there a way of prolonging the life of the fan for just a few more months as I plan on swapping the fans out when I do my system upgrade. I think I read once u can try WD40 is this true? I believe the fans are Corsair AF120. Thanks. |
Re: Noisy Case Fan Issue
you will need to remove the rear sticker and apply some sort of grease. WD 40 will do it but it is thin and will not last as long as some proper grease but as you say you do not need it to last to long

Re: Noisy Case Fan Issue
Is it just spinning at a higher speed? Or does it sound like bearings wearing out or loose? Is there anything controlling the spin speed? When starting up, a controlled spin speed tends to be high for a brief time, because the system has yet to take a temperature reading. If it's not going down, that might be a sign of high temps somewhere. Eg CPU. Check the BIOS for any fan speed profile of when it should increase spin speed.

Re: Noisy Case Fan Issue
Silicone oil is far better, but silicone and electrical contacts are a bad combination. WD40 just attracts dirt.
As my daughter recently found out, it's not always the fan, but the case shrinking when cool. Tightening the case screws stopped the rattle. |
