Medicinal canabis

Has anyone here take, or has taken medicinal canabis for pain? If so is it effective, and is it in the form of liquid, tablet or ointment. would you recommend as it is very expensive? I'd appreciate your input.

"There is some evidence medical cannabis can help certain types of pain, though this evidence is not yet strong enough to recommend it for pain relief".

Not easily…

FAQs on the NHS website.

Quote:

Due to the limited evidence base and their unlicensed nature, prescribing of cannabis-based products for medicinal use is restricted to only those clinicians listed on the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council.

Any decision to prescribe must take into account the relevant GMC guidance and the relevant NHS Trust governance procedures for unlicensed medicines in the normal way. In addition, a Specialist on the General Medical Council Register should only prescribe within their own area of practice and training, and the decision to prescribe should generally be agreed by the multidisciplinary team. Adhering to the normal medicines governance systems not only supports good clinical practice but also offers liability coverage for NHS employees in prescribing an unlicensed medicine and importantly, is safer for patients.

A GP may make a referral to a specialist doctor on the General Medical Council’s ‘Specialist Register’ once the patient reaches the appropriate point in their treatment pathway.

Can I get a prescription for medical cannabis?

Very few people in England are likely to get a prescription for medical cannabis.

Currently, it is only likely to be prescribed for the following conditions:

children and adults with rare, severe forms of epilepsy
adults with vomiting or nausea caused by chemotherapy
people with muscle stiffness and spasms caused by multiple sclerosis (MS)

It would only be considered when other treatments were not suitable or had not helped.

Re: Medicinal canabis

There could be a UK clinical trial underway that may cover your condition. The site that lists such trials is here:-

I had run out of options and getting onto an international trial gave me access to a drug that helped reset my immune system. Still have the underlying condition but the trial was a lifeline and I have never regretted my decision.
