Train Crash in Greece 01/03/23

There has been a big train crash in Greece between two trains that collided.
Currently reports of dozens of fatalitites and many injured.

A passenger service carrying some 350 people crashed with a freight train.

Let's hope they find more survivors.

I do wonder how things like this can occur these days as you'd think trains would have anti-collision systems whereby warnings go off if they get too close to another train.

Absolutely horrendous, these poor people stood no chance. The drone footage shows full result of the impact.

As I understand it, the two trains ended up on the same track, in opposite directions, and hit each other head on (probably at near full speed). Even if any proximity system existed, it would never have stopped them in time. How they ended up like that is unknown atm, but the station master has been arrested.
