Car battery life

What is the life of a car battery that is originally fitted by the manufacturer

In my experience over time it's around 10 years.

A good quality replacement, by say Exide, should last the same.

Really depends on keeping it charged. Have solar trickle charger , as last car the battery lasted about a year!!

I had a Halford's Calcium Tech battery on my last car that was still perfect after 8 years (4-year warranty).

The occasional use of a modern pulse recharger might have helped it last that long.

I suspect modern start-stop cars might see a drop in battery life.

Problem with warranty is have to do a 1,000 miles a year , small car so far have done 60 miles since October last year . No problems with main car but luckily to get 25 out of it !if used for shopping etc. So solar charger it is .

Well my current car is 8 years old, and the battery seems fine.

I bought one of these from Lidl years ago (they still appear on the shelves regularly). It's kept indoors with a 2 core 5 amp cable running out the DC voltage to the car.

It's fully automatic, and will deep charge or trickle charge as required by the battery.

You can switch it off, however you have to do it everytime you start the car :erm:

It's the first thing I do when I get into my car. The button is next to the handbrake.
