Perfect Christmas dinner
I thought that to go alongside the topic about what people are cooking for their festive meal, I'd ask people to say what their perfect Christmas dinner would be.

Re: Perfect Christmas dinner
The perfect Christmas dinner...? I'll have to go back at least 30 years. I have one specific one in memory that was perfect to me. Sadly it can never be beaten or replicated.
If we're going on food alone. Then a turkey crown the size of my oven (for leftovers), with all the trimmings. No starters or desserts as the meal is easily enough to last us a day or 3 on it's own. |
Re: Perfect Christmas dinner
My perfect dinner would start with a Sauvignon blanc , the maybe a Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and then a Riesling. Then onto Brandy.. Needn't bother with the food.

Re: Perfect Christmas dinner
This year we start with the old tried and tested prawn cocktail, followed by roast beef, roast potatoes, yorkshires, brussels, honey glazed parsnips, cocktail sausages, stuffing balls and gravy, washed down with white plonk, mmmmmmmmmm yummy. That's my idea of a perfect Christmas dinner. in the company of Mr T and youngest son. Don't know about Christmas pudding yet, we have a shop bought which has been sitting in our cupboard for around 4-5 years, could be good could be mouldy  :erm:

Now that sounds good. I do like a ChateauNeuf du Pape. For toasting the new Year I'm thinking English Sparkling from Nyetimber or ChapelDown. They've proved very good compared to the usual Champagne. |
Re: Perfect Christmas dinner
I think
biltong, snacks and similar with beers round the braai by the pool with wors, steak, chicken, prawns, chops etc. Pap, sauce, corn cooked in the leaves next to the coals, salad. Fresh fruit to end with koeksisters, melktert and other South African treats. But this means a relocation as well as change of menu. |
