Hub5 - VOIP
Anybody with VOIP active swapped from Hub4 to Hub5 yet?
If so - anything I need to lookout for? |
Re: Hub5 - VOIP
Just got my Hub5 a few days ago, and can confirm that its working great for VOIP on the default or modem modes.
On the things to look out for part. When it starts up in full router mode (the default mode) it will come up on the network on 192.168.1.1. Which may collide with your 3rd party router. It did have a fight (ip address collision) with my Asus router until I put it into modem mode and then it went back to using 192.168.100.1 and everything was happy again. As for performance, its working great so far and I'm not noticing the same lag spikes or lockups as I was on the hub4. |
Re: Hub5 - VOIP
Thanks for info.
I installed my mum's last week as just a basic router operation and it was available as 192.168.100.1 - but will look out. |
Re: Hub5 - VOIP
VOIP is why I'll be sticking to my SH2ac.
When your broadband is down, my separate independent phoneline will be working. Pay for 200mb get that and a bit more . Not sure.what more I expect. |

Re: Hub5 - VOIP
When you move to VOIP has nothing to do with your current Hub.
When your area gets done, you will get a new Hub that supports the function. |
Re: Hub5 - VOIP
I don't see how that is connected??
My mum has a Hub5 and a regular 'phone line which works with the Hub5 off. Quote:

Re: Hub5 - VOIP
All copper phone lines are due to be shut down by 2025. It's proving too costly for BT et. all to maintain the lines. VoIP is the preferred route now, and yes it has no resilience during power cuts ....

Re: Hub5 - VOIP
I think many of them are using powered base units for their 'phones and so thy will not work in a power cut anyway.

Re: Hub5 - VOIP
We have both a wireless phone and an old one plugged in for use in power cuts. Mobile signal here is not stellar.

Re: Hub5 - VOIP
Is it VOIP? I don't think it is. My phone is analogue and plugged into the Hub telephone port (via a filter). So it can't be VOIP.

Re: Hub5 - VOIP
It is VoIP between the Hub and Virgin Media, but it's converted to an analogue service on the Hub so you can use your existing handsets.

Re: Hub5 - VOIP
But is there a proper VOIP service for users with IP phones via the telephone port (which is not Ethernet).
