I remember my cousin was in the military and I remember one thanksgiving he came home and said "This food is nothing like it is there" --- Or maybe he meant the other way round,I dunno.........

I think when he first joined,He didnt like it but had to stay 4 years.........

My 2 younger brothers and I did military service. I did 14 years, they did substantially less. The food in the messes depended on where you were, but it was always substantial and palatable.

Apart from national service no, during the war they were in protected occupations.

Not at the moment.My husband was/is the last thus far and he was Navy.

My Dad was in the Royal Navy.

My late brother-in-Law was in the marines and was at the relief of Stanley in the Falklands. My father served in the RAF and flew Lancaster's though after WW2

My Father served in the 2nd World War, I served for 15 years in the Armored Corps and my youngest son served with the Royal Marines in Afghanistan.
