Are you going on a summer holiday this year?

So the summer is upon us and looking at current temperatures it may be as hot in the UK as some Mediterannean countries...but ofcourse how long will it last!

Is anyone going away this summer?

Obviously the rise in costs for nearly everything including fuel means times are harder but I get the impression people want to get away reguardless after several years of Covid lockdowns.

Whether its just a day trip here or there, a caravan by the beach, or you are jetting off somewhere, whats your plans?

We've not been away since a visit to the missus' mother near Paris in 2005. Prior to that, it was a fortnight in Normandy in a large gîte. The ferry now costs 60% more than the 2 week's rent!

UK prices are too high for us to even think about a staycation. And all our passports have expired.

Already been. Wonderful time, weather and coastline down in the SW. The school holiday and airport chaos is to be avoided at all costs. . Does the UK count as a holiday anymore? They now seem to call it a' staycation' for some reason, and to count as a 'holiday' it must be abroad...

Yes, Turkey at the end of August.

Big difference between diving in the Mediterranean and diving in the North Sea....

Went to Vilamoura (Algarve) in March, Kyrenia (North Cyprus) in May, currently in Dubrovnik (Croatia), and back to Kyrenia in mid-late September.

Off to North Oxfordshire at the end of the month for a long weekend to visit the son, visiting Glasgow late August for a long weekend to celebrate my sister’s 70th birthday, then off for a five day break visiting friends who live in a small village near Newark early September.

SWMBO has a weekend in London mid-August.

We’re hoping to visit friends who have a place in Robin’s Hood Bay sometime over the next few months, but still trying to find a suitable/free weekend.

One of the joys of being retired…

Went to Poole, it was lovely, recommend a boat trip out to Brownsea Island if you get chance. I'm easily impressed by red squirrels :)

As for Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door, never seen anywhere prettier.

I havent had a proper holiday since before lockdown and then my holiday was cancelled.

Fast forward to 2022.... Now looking forward to Mallorca/Majorca in August. Much needed sunshine and drinks!
Hotel right near the beach and surrounded by beautiful scenery!

Been saving a while for this so can't wait!

Sounds great. I'd love a boat one day. Where abouts are you going?

Ferry prices are ridiculous at the moment. Cheaper to fly and rent a car.
When it was lockdown and you couldnt travel abroad the UK holiday industry saw Money money money! A typical cottage or B&B is nearly 3 times the price now! Maddness!

Day trips are great. And it seems to make the summer seem a lot longer as you look back and you've done a lot of different things.
