5ghz internet not connecting on Virgin

Hi guys, I have set my superhub3 modem mode only and recently unable to connect to the 5ghz connection. I have separated the two connections 2ghz and 5ghz on my asus router but when I click on the 5ghz it says unable to connect and sometimes says the network is in wifi channels in use by several nearby networks, restart router to see if the channel changes. I have done that with no luck and unable to connect. Any ideas what I need to do?

Thanks

Turn off auto select frequencies and set your own perhaps? I use wifi analyser on my phone to choose a less congested frequency

No your phone scans all networks and reports the bands

It is just called wifi analyzer

You shouldn't have that problem with Asus routers. There are a gazillion channels to use and it will automatically choose one which isn't in it. Have you made sure the wifi password is set correctly on the router and you are inputting the correct password on the clients?

The fact that you are asking which app to use makes me think that you haven't even been into the Asus' gui and don't know how to get there. If you can't use a wired connection on a laptop or pc and are connected to the lan via wifi (regardless of frequency) you can go to 192.168.0.1 or router.asus.com (in your web browser) and enter the username and password which you have presumably setup providing you have previously logged in to and configured the Asus router. From there you can select wireless in the menu on the left hand side and view all your wireless settings.

No I haven’t checked all the Asus router settings. The fact is that most of the time the option to connect to the 5ghz wifi is nof visible and the Asus shows the wifi fine in the settings. When it does show it doesn’t connect . What is the issue, this happens to any device I try to connect. If I change channels manually it shows but hit n miss.

I have the virgin internet and have set the modem as modem mode.

Thanks

that's a contradiction so which is it? Have you logged into the gui and looked at the wifi settings or not? It is all on the same page so you have either done it or not. You can't change the wifi channels the router is using unless you go to that specific page.

you shouldn't have to manually switch channel. The router will automatically scan the wireless spectrum and pick a channel which is not in use. If you were using the shub for wireless I could half understand you having a problem because the shubs are crap but Asus routers are just too good for this kind of problem.

Like I said earlier, there are a gazillion channels on 5ghz to use so there is no way they are all in use no matter how many houses and routers you have got near you. I am 99% sure the problem isn't with the router but to satisfy my curiosity and for the purposes of elimination the best thing you can do is go to the Apple/Google play store, download a free wifi analyzer app and it will scan the spectrum for you, display the available wireless access points and what channels they are using. You can then go back to the router, pick a channel a mile away from those and see if you have the same problem. I have got two wireless routers in the house using the same ssid to provide seamless full wireless coverage and you can see the routers (both Asus) have chosen completely distinct channels miles away from each other and the Sky boxes.

That says Virgin 2 so is that what you have named your wireless network on the Asus router or is the shub still in router mode and broadcasting wirelessly?

No I have named the 5ghz as virgin 2 other is virgin 1 which connects fine. The issue is Virgin 2 which is 5Ghz. Hub is on as modem mode.

No idea, i hate Apple stuff. Search for wifi analyzer in the app store and download the one with the highest rating/review/number of stars. They are free so it doesnt matter if you download two or three in order to get the right one.
