Old Tivo box question

I still use a semi antique Tivo 500GB (complete with scart socket) which has actually served really well but has several limitations e.g. no 4K BT sport etc. I've found it useful as I distribute the signal around the house via the scart output but I feel I should move on and see if VM feel the same (assuming I can negotiate a decent deal with them in the next few weeks).

I have a fair bit of content on it that I would really like to retain. I seem to remember there is a way of transferring it on to a new machine. Have I imagined this or is it possible to do. If it is possible do I get to keep the old machine to perform this task? I can't imagine an engineer hanging around while I faff around transferring gigabytes of content.
Thanks.

It's not possible to transfer recordings.

It should be possible to transfer series link settings from one TiVo based box to another, but it's unfortunately broken at the moment.

You could make use of that scart output to a hard drive/dvd recorder. Bit of a faff though, depending on the amount you want to transfer as you'd need to record in real time. Can't do this on the newer boxes.

I'm in a similar postion with an old tivo and a v6, be interested to hear how you get on . I would miss that scart output though ;) Not interested in tv 360 as I'd lose recording space on the extra non recordable box, would take another v6 to replace the tivo, but not sure if they do that now.

Still, they haven't given me a price rise yet, so have to wait for that before 'negotiations' begin. I'd settle for the status quo and no rise !

:tu: Thanks both.

Don't think I've got the time or energy to rig up the tivo to a dvd recorder even though I could, not since I lost months of my life digitising all my video tape stuff.

Apparently you get to keep the old Tivo if they are willing to swap you out, and the ability to watch pre recorded shows continues for a while, although eventually the facility will disappear especially if the box is rebooted.

Also there's no guarantee they'll even give me a new box, although I guess if i'm negotiating a new contract that may tip it in my favour.

you may well find a lot of it on demand anyway

If you have an engineer swap the box they should be taking the TiVo box with them.

The only time you get to 'keep' a TiVo box is when it's remotely disconnected. Rather than send out a returns packs, you're asked to take it to your local electrical recycling centre as part of the WEEE recycling scheme Virgin Media contribute to.

Ah OK thanks, that's a bit of a pain. The recordings I've got are mostly BT Sport stuff and isn't available in its entirety anywhere online that I've been able to find.
