Re: Asda open Christmas slots for delivery savers today

Given the problems in previous years with everybody trying to grab a slot at the same time, it occurred to me that perhaps the supermarkets should release the Xmas slots in batches, by area. Somebody in London is not likely to need a slot for Birmingham or Manchester etc. Therefore London based slots could be released on a different day to Birmingham based ones. Limits the maximum demand of people trying to log on to the system.

Asda’s Christmas delivery slots are only open for those who subscribe to their delivery pass. The slots open to the plebs this time next week (at which point most of them will already have gone).

I have a recurring slot with them every Friday which they have cancelled for the holiday, so I took Thursday 23rd for our regular weekly family delivery and Tuesday 21st for all the actual Christmas stuff. We normally get more than one delivery in the week running up to Christmas so we have a second chance to get stuff they say is out of stock first time round. Hopefully that won’t be such an issue this year as some of their seasonal items (certain of their prepared roasts for example) are restricted to delivery during the last 3 days before Christmas only, so I’m hoping the fact they’re taking orders for them now means they can plan ahead and not run out.

Morrisons are changing their system (again )
So you cant book anything past Sunday Oct 24th atm.

They normally open xmas slots to pass holders first, so I expect they will again.

Didn't you used to use Ocado?

I had a terrible time with Asda, so stopped using them.

Waitrose have already opened their Christmas delivery slots and will be delivering orders between 20 and 24 December.
Tesco delivery slots will be released from November 16 for Delivery Saver customers and November 23 for non-Delivery Saver customers.
Sainsbury’s have yet to announce when their Christmas booking slots will open, but have said that all orders will be delivered between 22 and 24 December.
The Co-op will open their delivery slots on a rolling basis five days in advance of delivery, so we would advise a bit of forward planning to work out when you would like to receive your orders.

Christmas delivery slots for Ocado, however, have literally already sold out. To reiterate, it is currently October.

The reporter is confusing two slightly different things there.

All the supermarkets now do home delivery, and throughout the year you can book delivery slots a month or more ahead, depending on which supermarket it is. Whether the supermarket allows you to book even further ahead as Christmas approaches is obviously of great interest to those who use the service. Asda released delivery slots for 20-24 December yesterday (if you have a delivery pass), which is almost 10 weeks in advance.

What the reporter in your link has slightly muddled up is the separate issue of when the supermarkets will deliver advance orders for special Christmas products like turkey, luxury cake, pudding etc. Some of the supermarkets, like Sainsbury’s for example, keep those services distinct on their websites while others, like Asda, mark certain items as “Food To Order” and will only let you put them in your basket if your delivery date is 21-24 December.

Sainsbury’s has not yet opened its home delivery slots for regular groceries, but it has opened slots for its separate Christmas food orders. In fact those order slots have been open for several weeks already and at many stores they are already booked solid, even for store pick-up.

You can order it but will you get it, or will the shelves be emptied by those who shop the old way.

If you order for a relatively early delivery your order is fulfilled before 7 to 8 am when the shop is quiet and the shelves filled by night staff. All through lockdown I did really well using this method including last Christmas

Morning orders are definitely the best. The shop staff get to it before the in-store customers do.

Further to that, certain special items are now being labelled as “for order”, so if you put one in your online basket you’re not relying on it being on the shelf on the day of your delivery because they’re getting one in for you.
