Re: What router to buy
I have an Asus GT-AX11000 . If you acquire that you probably won't need an imesh arrangement unless you are in a large house.
Good points: Excellent WiFi range and a WAN to LAN throughput over 1GBs allowing you to take advantage of a 1Gb service. (Not many routers have this.) There are also some nifty devices and labour savers for gamers. Bad Points: QoS is a waste of time if your connection is 500Mb or above. It pegs my 1Gb service to only 450Mb. Expensive. Most of the gamer devices can be done without if you are prepared to research your own server ports and IPs. |
Re: What router to buy
I'm very happy with my Netgear Nighthawk X6 (R8000)
I even have the app to remote control it. |
Re: What router to buy
I have the Netgear R7000 and that too works fine. I use a TPlink N600 as an access point in back of the house and for LAN ports in office.
What I'd love to be able to do is to VLAN the WiFi guest network to the back router so better signal in back garden for guests but still keep them away from my own stuff. |

I use the same with no issues. I did try QoS on this and it seemed to kill my speed too (like the Asus above).

You can check out other routers that have WAN to LAN throughput >900Mb here. https://www.smallnetbuilder.com/old-.../74-wan-to-lan SNB don't seem to have included the AX11000 in their chart. Perhaps they haven't tested it yet. This morning's speed test. https://www.cableforum.uk/images/local/2020/08/8.png |
