Internal IDE interface DVD writer

Wanting to replace an old DVD RW optical drive, found internal SATA interface drives but IDE look a bit like hard to find.
I know it's old tech, just want to use an old PC off net.

There are IDE to SATA converters available. They can be internal(fits in the case) or external. If the PC is that old, it might not be able to handle the capacity of a DVD drive.

I'm sure you can find what you want on ebay.

Not totally convinced enough power could pass down the IDE ribbon cable with that device. In a laptop does it plug directly into the laptop's circuits without using a cable?

Something like this might be better. It has a separate 4-pin molex IDE power socket. Same item seems to be available from different suppliers on Amazon.

I used this IDE to SATA adaptor to attach a couple of HDDs to an older mobo that only had two bespoke SATA sockets already in use.

Worked a treat and still had DMA support. Essential when using the PC as a media server.

Needs a power connector with a 4 pin Molex on it.
