Video CODEC advice
Rather than the usual H.264 codec, a lot of mp4 and webm vids being sent to me report they are using "bipolar" as their codec.
Trying to convert any of these files results in an error or a tiny file (around 6kb). That is local conversion or online conversion. I use the K-Lite Mega pack of codecs, but the name "bipolar" doesn't exist in it's listings. Oddly though, VLC media player can play the original files, though trying to upload them to Facebook or Youtube returns an error. Any video experts here? |
Re: Video CODEC advice
I've never heard of bipolar!
What player are you using? Give VLC Player a go in case that supports it as it is one of the most popular and best. edit I see your already tried VLC. |
Re: Video CODEC advice
Same here. Never heard of that codec. Try uninstalling all codecs, then install VLC, MPC, AC3filter codec and go from there.

Re: Video CODEC advice
Start playing the video in VLC and then look at the properties. Might give a clue?

First is the info from Freemake Converter, where it says "bipolar" is normally where H.264 appears.

Re: Video CODEC advice
As MediaInfo shows, the Video is AV1, and the audio is Opus.

Doesn’t appear on their supported formats list.

Re: Video CODEC advice
I have now tried 26 online converters and they all crash, give errors or return tiny 6kb files that don't open, in any format I select.
Maybe it's not the internal codec but the mp4 wrapper? Incidentally I already have the Win10 codec for AV1 https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/av...ot:overviewtab |
Re: Video CODEC advice
FFMPEG might, but I dont have any files of that format to test.

Here is a short one. I need to convert it to AVI for editing in VirtualDub. Freemake converter describes it as "bipolar", but also that it has no audio. It opens perfectly in VLC and others, but will not convert or be accepted for uploading to Facebook or Youtube. It failed.... Ho hum, even this forum will not allow it to be uploaded, "Invalid file" :dunce: |

Re: Video CODEC advice
zip it up. The forum allows zipped files up to 1MByte and RAR files to 3.9MByte as attaches.

But if I extract the file, it runs perfectly in VLC. |
