Police said a man in his 40s had been arrested in connection with the attacks. Greater Manchester Police said the investigation was being led by Counter Terrorism Police North West and officers are "keeping an open mind" about the motive. The shopping centre was evacuated and remains sealed off while the investigation gets underway.

From Greater Manchester Police: An evacuation of the cinema at the Printworks that took place earlier tonight (11 Oct 2019) is due to a false activation of a sprinkler. There is no cause for concern or reason to be alarmed.

Looks like it was a lone nutter, now detained under the Mental Health Act.

But even "lone nutters" usually have a motive of sorts. It might be all in their heads, but it is still there.
