A bit more rain and they will be residing in the resevoir , must be a very nerve racking time for property owners,I hope it all turns out fine for them.

The dam is founded on fluvio-glacial sand and gravels, glacial till overlying a faulted sequence of mudstones, sandstones and shales of the Millstone Grit Series and Lower Coal Measures

Remedial work was done on the dam's internal impervious layer in 1981.

I must admit it would seem easier. Use a pump to start the syphon and away you go. Keep adding extra pipes and you multiply drainage.
