Light sensitive relay
1 Attachment(s)
Can anyone identify the make/model of this relay? - looks like the one controlling my porch lights has died - if I get one the same, then swapping out should be easy, if it's different, it's harder :)
TIA |
Re: Light sensitive relay
Judging by the amount of crud in there, I'd give it a blow out all the fluff off the LDR first (the round thing with a squiggly line across it).
If gunk (insects etc.) got in there, I suspect moisture will have too. That would kill it. |

This is the part

Re: Light sensitive relay
Not bothered fixing up the existing board? There's less than a fiver worth of components on there.
Replace the trigger IC, relay, that box pulse cap, the electrolytics and the photo resistor and clean it all up I reckon that should sort it. |
Re: Light sensitive relay
In my experience if damp has compromised the PCB then changing the components is unlikely to fix it. I tried with a motion sensor lamp control and it never really worked properly.
Fiberglass PCBs are better but still no guarantees. |
Re: Light sensitive relay
One of my jobs in The RAF was to clean circuit boards, with all their components fitted, in a sonic bath, Then dry them slowly in a huge oven. Not one failed to work afterwards, but that was pre-integrated circuits days.

Re: Light sensitive relay
It can be successful if the PCB is not compromised. (Charred or corroded) I remember a temperature controller (1/4 DIN) that had "fallen" in a vat of glucose.:dozey: The service engineer washed the bare PCBs in a bath of detergent and then Arklone and finally dried out in an low temperature oven. It worked afterwards.

Re: Light sensitive relay
Hmm... not really sure I have the time, patience or tools to do all of the things mentioned - I think I'll just replace it with a like for like component :)
Thanks all! |
