Who will compete with Netflix and Amazon

Going forward which streaming services will compete with Netflix and Amazon in the entertainment space ?

Disney perhaps but not if they set their pricing wrong.

YouTube Red and Disney are potentially the most likely out of that list. Hulu's content is carried by other operators in the UK and elsewhere, so I suspect that they won't expand beyond the US.

You didn't list HBO, which is another possibility at a future date, once existing contracts with Sky are up. I don't think they will make a lot of headway as a purely pay per view service.

As for Facebook - where is all their original content going to come from? I remain to be convinced that they will succeed in this area for the foreseeable future.

Other services may emerge. The collaboration between BBC, ITV and Channel 4 (commonly referred to as Project Kangaroo 2) would become a force to be reckoned with in this area if it eventually gets off the ground.

I reserve my judgement on Apple for the time being!

Apple are spending over $1 billion on content which should arrive in 2019 ok still way behind Netflix but not a bad start at all.

As for Disney who knows what happens with their streaming proposition , don't forget if Disney buys Fox and gets Sky they have a huge amount of content and rights at their disposal plus they become the majority shareholder in Hulu I believe.

Good points. This is truly a rapidly changing landscape.

Worth also pointing out that many of these companies also have products linked with their current streaming offerings , invest in content and reap the benefits in hardware sales.

Amazon - Fire TV devices , Alexa speakers , Fire Tablets

Apple - iPads , iPhone , Apple TV , Apple HomePod

Google (YouTube Premium) - Google Home , Chromecast , Android Phones

That said being available across many devices is also important to their success.

I agree, and I think that's where Apple will come unstuck. I think they will resist adding their video services to other devices.
