A number of Google Chrome users recently became aware of the fact that not only does their browser allow them to surf the web, it also quietly scans their personal files without prior consent.

Yes I noticed this a few months ago. I was very surprised there wasn't a bigger deal made at the time.

I never use chrome and although I agree they should have made users aware of the security scan I cannot see it being anywhere near as bad as what google does elsewhere.

I have chrome installed as a backup browser, my main port of call tho is Firefox.

Dude111 06-04-2018 01:46

I wonder if there is anyway of disabling the scan??

Firefox here too, gave Chrome the elbow when they got rid of the option to use the backspace key as a page back.

I swapped from Chrome which i loved and used for donkeys years to Firefox Quantum now it is superfast again although i don't like it on Android and use Opera now which has a far nicer speed dial and blocks ads perfectly as default.

Ya a few years ago I tried FF 1.5.0.5 Paul just to see if I liked it..... It was OK but I couldnt do as much as I can do with MyIE2 so I just stayed with what I have loved for many years :)

The guy who made MyIE2 started making it worse,I have the last version called "MyIE2" ... It really started getting worse when it was called "MAXTHON" its really quite sad.......

The BEST IE wrapper I have ever found and it was destroyed all in a couple versions!!

You sure like your 'old' stuff of anything don't you. :)

You need to consider if the app is upto date and secure though to continue to use it in my opinion.

Dude111 10-04-2018 03:24

Well anything is secure IF YOU HAVE IT CONFIGURED RIGHT buddy :)

I have IE6 pretty much locked down..... (Active X,etc)

I think i have a good browser pair (IE6 and MyIE2)

I can do alot with IE I cant do with MyIE2 and vise versa (They both work together (MyIE2 accesses the IE engine))

If you think that those apps are secure in a modern sense and compared to modern browsers then you are mistaken.
