The suspect in a gun attack at YouTube's HQ in California had expressed anger over its treatment of her video postings, media reports say.

Police have named Nasim Aghdam, 39, as the suspect but say they are still investigating a motive.

US media say Aghdam was angry that YouTube was filtering her videos and reducing the money she could make.

Tuesday's attack left a man and two women injured with gunshot wounds. The attacker shot herself dead.

About time now they started taking guns from Americans? there is more attacks these days in America due to their own gun problems than there is ISIS doing terror attacks. it's just a shame they focus so much on that than they do their own

If you remove the guns, the nut jobs will simply find a different weapon.

The problem isn't the guns per se, it's the mental state of the person(s) who commit the crime. Whatever the motive is, guns obviously make it easier to act out their strange act of rage/frustration/jealousy or whatever, but it won't stop it happening.

Removing guns will also present criminals with better opportunities to commit crimes if their targets are made defenseless.

America has a problem, guns are simply a small part of it.

They would say "Take guns out of our cold dead hands" or "Guns protect against guns"

Personally the UK should stop giving US shootings air time, as I don't give a dame anymore let them wipe each other out.

She was upset at losing income from her youtube posts. Hardly a reason to go out and shoot people is it?

Not when you're an animal rights activist and rabid vegan.

These nutters have lost touch with reality.

Don't suppose it's worth mentioning that California has some of the strictest gun laws in the U.S or that it has a flourishing black market in firearms. This nut would have used something else if a gun wasn't available the problem isn't what was used but the type of person that thinks how she did. Youtube for quite a few years let some very dubious people make very good money out of uploads and in the last year has closed off that money often with no real reason it isn't that hard to realise if you cut off the easy money for some they may go off at the deepend.

I think their definition of ‘strict’ may vary from ours (and California has the strictest gun laws in the US).

Only 1% of applicants are refused because of background checks, and they can have an unlimited amount of firearms (but can only buy on firearm per month).

If you're a gun owner in California, you must:

Pass a universal background check, no matter where you buy your gun

Wait at least 10 days to receive that gun (the idea here is to give law enforcement enough time to conduct the background check)

Get your handgun microstamped, which means the make, model and serial number of the gun is transferred to each cartridge case every time the gun is fired (the idea is to allow police at a crime scene to trace a gun back to its owner)

Take and pass a written safety test

You can't:

Own most assault weapons or buy and sell large-capacity ammunition magazines or .50 caliber rifles

Buy your gun through a private sale, like online or via a friend, without first going through a licensed dealer (and thus getting a background check)

Buy more than one handgun a month

That only applies if you are buying a firearm within the state. There is nothing stopping anyone buying out of state where the law may be more relaxed and bringing it back.

Whatever changes to gun law (if any) made in the US would have to be on a federal level so that all states would be equal in implementation.

Actually Pip you can't just hop the state line and bring back what you want California has strict rules on rifles and sidearms they are also very restrictive on ammunition purchases. It is illegal to sell an AR15 in standard form you have to remove the pistol grip and limits of 10 round magazines as opposed to the standard 30 round magazine. The rules are more detailed then that but i know your very capable of reading for yourself if you have the interest and there are a number of legal cases ongoing regarding the actions of inspectors in California and how they treat anyone they don't feel is following the rules or is purchasing firearms and ammunition too often.

I think I'm also right that California rarely now issues concealed carry permits and is in the process of cancelling long standing reciprocal agreements on accepting out of state concealed carry permits but might be incorrect.

I don't have to read anything. I listen to what friends in California tell me.
I think they are better placed to know what can or can't be done rather than you or I.
