We’re doing some important maintenance work in your area
Hi,
Does anyone know exactly what work they will be doing? The reason I ask is because the other week a friend received the same worded letter through the door and on the day the work was carried out they messed my friends power levels, his downstream power levels went from 0 to -11 and the upstream power levels went from 43 to 55. I am guessing they are messing around in the cabinet probably. Someone obviously did a sloppy job on my friends connection and just put on any tap and hoped for the best lol. What’s that saying? “don’t fix it if it ain’t broke” Thanks for looking at my post and I’ll look forward to the responses. - We know how important it is for your home to get brilliantly fast and reliable Virgin Media services. So, to keep things up to speed, we’re planning some important improvement and upgrade work in your area that might affect your broadband and TV service for part of the day. We’ll do our very best to make sure it’s all done as quickly as possible, but if there’s any disruption, it’ll be on - - 2018, so do keep in mind that your broadband and TV services could be affected up to 5pm that day. Don’t worry - your phone line won’t be affected at all. It shouldn’t take more than a few hours, but if your services aren’t back to normal by 5pm, try restarting your set top box and modem. If this doesn’t do the trick, give our team a call on 0800 052 8164. We’d like to say sorry in advance for any inconvenience the work might cause. Thanks in advance for all your patience while we improve your network. - |

It could be almost anything.

Re: We’re doing some important maintenance work in your area
Last time this happened in my local area, it was a tidy up of the insides of the cabinets. Think they removed any non connected lines, splitters etc. Not sure if they replaced the amps or not. It did lead to the upstream power dropping quite a bit, although still in spec.
Could also be work at the headend? |
Re: We’re doing some important maintenance work in your area
You say if it’s not broke don’t fix it, there are plant upgrade works going on all across the country, to prepare the network for years into the future. As to your work specifically as said it could be anything, but it’s not done for fun, there is always a good reason for it.

Cabinet cleanup, amplifier swap out, re-balancing local network taps, new build adding a new amp. diverting existing network due to construction work... it could be one of a number of things.

I hope when they come to do that work in my area next week they don’t do what they did to my friends connection. By the way, have they got the equipment to check a customers connection from the cabinet or can that only be done from the customers premises?
