Wealth = anonymity

Eton student who owned toddler-rape videos allowed to use false name to protect wealthy family

Obviously not very tech savvy, it's out on the net now and rightly so.

It does show the contempt the wealthy have for the rest of us.

I think the really contemptuous thing is the fact he got an 18 month suspended sentence for having a video of a child being raped, amongst other vile stuff

It shows nothing of the sort .Quite possibly it was a way to try to limit the amount of damage done to the rest of the family mostly the father who is a prominent American lawyer .Should he and his business suffer ? .

Given that the offences happened when he was legally a child he would have been subject to an anonymity order from the judge had the crimes been tried at the time of the offence and had the offences been committed by anyone from a lesser background we would probably never have even heard of it ,only the fact that it was an 'Etonian' that committed the offences has meant that social media and the Mail has gone nuts over it .

.

The sentence does actually meet with the guidelines that judges have to follow and there are a few mitigating factors that the judge has to take into consideration ,he was under 18 yrs at the time ,he pleaded guilty and has undergone psychiatric treatment

That's okay then, I'm sure that'll come as great solace to the victims, those forced to have sex with dogs etc that other victims are treated just as shabbily. Imo it's about time the law recognised if there wasn't a market for this sort of material some of the abuse might not happen and punish people found possessing it accordingly

Trouble is our prisons are overcrowded and the government won't build capacity fast enough so courts have been ordered to only give custodial sentences where there are no other options. Unfortunately it's become a well known fact to quite a few criminals who are making hay while the sun shines and going about their business with very little to zero chance they will be taken off the streets for their crimes.

We'll always find room for someone who can't or won't pay their council tax though, that's the main thing
