A truly great actor who will be sorely missed as he made some memorable films and TV series that will live long in the memory.:(

One of my favourite actors. Only a few days ago I was thinking how old and frail he looked.

Watched a film called 'Jackie' the other night (about Jackie Kennedy's life right after the assassination of JFK ) he plays a priest in it.

Sad news and we're still only in January.

I remember him well in the naked civil servant, Caligula in I Claudius and who can forget that alien scene?

Sir John grew up in Blundell Avenue, Cleethorpes, and spent many an afternoon watching Grimsby Town play. He was also a regular at the outdoor swimming pool in the resort.
