Hospital car parks bring in more than £120m for NHS trusts

http://news.sky.com/story/hospital-c...rusts-10709976

I find that some of the comments by Trust in this scandalous rip off, a total disgrace

One trust has said that the money goes towards the hospital, and car park maintenance. What a load of rubbish.
All you need is Two ticket machine and bingo. That doesn't cost a MILLION pounds per year.

The NHS doesn't get this. Its goes to the rip off companies that run the car parks.

The money should go towards creating important Units, ie Maternity, Cancer treatments at the hospital. And even creating staff quarters.

And staff ie Drs and Nurses should be allowed to park for free

I have clients who run several hospital parking schemes (not the one in this report), they do alright out of it. big detached bungalow, two brand new top of the range Range-Rovers, kids in private school...

Not sure what your point is here? Can you elaborate?

The money at my local hospital does go to the Trust, rightly or wrongly it's now part of the budget.
Patients shouldn't have to pay, but a small
charge for others seems reasonable. Problem with making it free is that non-hospital users will see that as an opportunity for free all day parking, with genuine patients unable to park.

That's the major reason that our hospital in Worthing bought in the charges as it's only just out of the town centre.

It shouldn't be beyond the wit of man to issue a voucher/ticket inside the hospital to genuine patients that covers the parking. Such a ticket could be used at an exit barrier rather than a pay and display system.

Some people will abuse any free parking: I heard a woman complaining bitterly that she'd had to pay a £60 fine at Lidl's because she went shopping in the town after parking at the store and was too long as they'd cut the time to 60 minutes. It's only a measly £1 an hour in the main carparks.

We have the blue badge but when we get to the hospital there are some with no disablements parked in these spots and thus we have to wait 20 to 30 minutes most of the time to to get a disabled spot.

Try picking up at Stansted airport

  • £3.00 for up to 10 minutes.
  • No stays beyond 10 minutes - Stays exceeding 10 minutes will be subject to a £50 charge.

It may seem that way but really the fee is set to discourage longer stay parking in a pick up/set down only area .We get this at my hospital where people park in a pick up/set down only area ,disappear for a few hours for appointments or whatever and them come back to find a ticket on their cars and then wonder why

Here it went in stages:

Quote:

Free car parking

A few break-ins or thefts

Car parking fee to pay for security staff

New parking areas or buildings

Increased parking fees to recover costs
But at some point, fees exceeded costs, so profits started to be made, and the bosses loved the extra cash.
