Another cracking suggestion from TiVo...

- 4 hours of the caption 'BBC3 has moved online'. Watched it anyway, bit boring but I got the message...
It was nearly as good as the month of Welsh regional news it thought I'd like.:erm:

Suggestions in Sky Q are equally as bizarre .I think Sky and VM need to stop trying to predict what we will want to watch

:D:D:D This made me literally lol!

AFAIK, the TiVo makes suggestions based on the thumbs up its been given and what has been recorded previously, however it's also designed to throw in some completely random programmes.

As it gives a thumbs up to programmes that it records, I wonder if it awards a thumbs up to suggestions that it has recorded?

If so, an unsuitable recording may lead to more unsuitable recordings, unless the thumbs up is manually deleted.

Mine haven't been to bad of late that said it's me who uses the main box predominantly , the kids use the mini and that seems to have now learned what they watch. It's interesting the box learns what you tend to watch at specific times of the day.

I think a profile feature is needed on PVR's because if a specific box is watched through the day by many different people it makes suggestions all the more harder and less specific to you.

That's the thing isn't ,the more people make choices the more suggestions you get ,my wife watches through the day and my son watches at night ,i sometimes watch at night ,sometimes at weekends when not working ,so the potential for suggestions is huge , the possibility for erroneous suggestions are equally as huge .

I don't use thumbs, pointless american style gimmick. The more you have the more the box slows down further. Think it also look at what you record and set series links on. None of which explains its latest suggestions, bless it.

It is still better at giving you something watchable than channel hopping. I think it's an excellent feature, just a pity that the thumbs slow down the box. Hopefully, the V6 will be powerful enough to overcome this problem for the whole of its assumed life.

Suggestions were a selling point for me, which is why I still use them.

I've told VM that I do not expect to have to stop using this feature to get the box working at a satisfactory speed.

Its akin to saying that a washer won't take 8 hours to wash if you stop spinning your clothes in it!

Confucius says :-
"Try resetting all your thumbs at some point Den, you'll be surprised how quickly the box speeds up. However the effect is only temporary :("

Look each customer is different OB as l feel for the minority who do have problems with their services but l take umbrage at one or two posters who on a regular basis paint a extremely bad picture of Virgins TV service and TiVo STB and several other things besides as it gives a totally exaggerated view of how things actually are in reality as l am pretty sure that the other TV companies have a problem here or there regarding their TV services unless they are utterly perfect as there is no such thing as everything being perfect as we all know.

I was teasing, Den. In a playful mood today!

I agree with you for the most part; most people are happy with Virgin Media, but there will always be those who expect perfection and demand preferential treatment because they believe they are special.

It is true that many are experiencing some slowness in responses with their Tivos, as am I, but the sky hasn't coming crashing in yet.

And the new super duper box is about to be launched. Can't wait!
