Electric cars to be given bizarre exemptions
Electric cars could be given priority at traffic lights and exempted from one-way systems, under new proposals.

Not sure these proposals are the right approach but I do think leccy is the way to go. Can't wait to see what TESLA are about to announce.
Fast and clean. Luvverly. |
Re: Electric cars to be given bizarre exemptions
Oh great, Nottingham gets more reasons to screw motorists.
It has high levels of pollution ? Well maybe the council should have thought of that when they slapped 20mph limits everywhere. Cars doing 20mph emit more pollution, and are in an area 50% longer, so of course the levels go up. Muppets. (of course, it would be even worse, but most people just ignore the limits). |

Unfortunately a LION battery with enough power to go say 300 miles is your basic bomb. Imagine a Note 7 on stearoids and a LION fire only gets worse if you put water on it. Hydrogen fuel cells with a separate hydride storage cyclinder(s) is much safer IMHO. Allowing them down a one-way street the wrong way is a disaster in waiting, people entering from side turnings may not look the "wrong way" and pull out infront of them. |

I would say more like an incendery device then a bomb. a bomb gose bang and releases all its energy in 1 go (LPG powered vehicle would be a bomb) LiON would simply continue burning till its energy is depleated. More importantly, Water is perfictly safe (and is infact the recommended method in some industrys (airlines) ) for putting out LiON fires as the water will smother the flame wile at the same time cooling the battery hulting the thermal runaway. LiON contain very little (almost none) matallic Lithium that basic chemistry lessions on Lithium + water dosnt apply ;) |
Re: Electric cars to be given bizarre exemptions
"Within the zone, local councils can create new road layouts allowing electric vehicles (EVs) to bypass one-way systems or get priority at junctions. They could also be given preferential parking spaces and lower charges."
I hope whoever came up with these ideas also thought about who's going to pay for this. VED on electric cars probably. |

Re: Electric cars to be given bizarre exemptions
i'd love to see just how much pollution is created in the manufacturing process of an electric car
zero emissions doesn't tell the whole tale ---------- Post added at 16:39 ---------- Previous post was at 16:38 ---------- Quote:

Re: Electric cars to be given bizarre exemptions
Pah! Being knocked down by an electric car will be just as painful just because you didn't know that an electric car could be coming the wrong way down a one way system and how the heck will I know that the cars coming the wrong way ARE electric...
