Welsh NHS 'playing God' says heart patient

http://www.itv.com/news/wales/2016-1...heart-patient/

This what makes me sick abut this country. Here is a man, been told he doesn't have much time left. Drs in Manchester say they can fit this article to make the guys body recover - yet NHS Wales wont pay for it.

How disgusting is that

I don't see why they make the distinction between a short-term requirement and a long-term one. They automatically fund short-term ones, but not long-term ones. I would have thought that any additional costs for the long-term one are fairly minimal compared to the overall cost.

I suspect possibly we're only seeing one side of the story

Whilst LVADs are not routinely funded by NHS Wales, all patient cases are assessed on a case by case basis, if the patient’s clinician considers there are exceptional circumstances.

As such requests for LVADs are considered using the Individual Patient Funding Request (IPFR) process. This process allows patients who are most likely to gain clinical benefit, access to treatments which are not routinely funded by NHS Wales.

Surely keeping someone alive when they would have otherwise died is the NHS playing God every day?

l had one of the first experimental LVAD's on the market just over 16 years ago as l had been seriously ill for a period and the consultant at the hospital said l had three choices and that was to be taken up to London to have a LVAD implanted for several years , go on the transplant list but l will likely to be dead before they called me up and the other choice was basically meeting my maker and l was lucky at that time that l had a choice and chose the first choice and thus a few weeks later my condition deteriorated to the point that l only had 24-48 hours to live so they airlifted me to London and operated on me 12 hours later and thankfully l am still here now with my own heart still although with limited heart function and a ICD now implanted in me.:)
